Have you ever caught yourself saying “I don’t know what I want”—whether it’s about dinner, your career, or the direction of your life? In this episode, Cecelia unpacks why this common phrase isn’t actually about confusion, it’s about protection. Starting with the seemingly small moment of choosing what to eat for dinner, Cecelia reveals how those tiny moments of self-abandonment add up to a larger pattern of silencing our own desires. She shares her own story of leaving a successful career in oil and gas, and why she genuinely believed she didn’t know what she wanted (spoiler: she knew, she just didn’t feel safe admitting it). This episode explores why your nervous system may have learned that it’s safer to disconnect from your desires than to honor them—and how you can begin creating the conditions for your true wants to emerge. If you’ve ever felt disconnected from yourself or struggled to name what you really want, this episode will help you understand why and remind you that nothing is wrong with you.

Topics:

  • Why “I don’t know what I want” is often protection masking as confusion
  • The pattern of self-abandonment in small moments (and how it compounds)
  • How nervous system safety impacts your ability to access your desires
  • The difference between your “canned answer” and what you actually want
  • Why confusion feels safer than clarity in many situations
  • The role of people-pleasing and peacekeeping in disconnecting from yourself
  • Creating the conditions (safety) for your desires to emerge
  • Positive self-regard as the foundation for knowing what you want
  • Identity shift: from “I’m inconsistent/behind/too much” to “I’m someone who knows what she wants”
  • How to begin listening to yourself again through a simple practice

About Your Host

I’m Cecelia, and I am passionate about helping people live the life they want to live and feel how they want to feel in their life. We do this together using mindset tools, nervous system regulation, and curious inquiry. I know that enjoying your life, feeling calm and even joyful is available to you.

If you’re ready to start right now, grab a recent workshop replay here on creating momentum.

Personally, I manifest in many ways- partner, mother, coach, sister, friend, daughter, citizen, feminist. I live with my husband and children way downeast Maine on a little bridge-connected island (after spending my first 35 years in cities). It’s beautiful here with the ocean and the wind.

I help my clients make big and small changes in life one step at a time.

No matter what’s happening in your life right now, I know you can feel different. I know that by working with your brain and nervous system, you can feel calm, content, joyful, AND you can still go after the big and small goals in your life (getting there will just feel different).

This process is simple and approachable.

You’re probably thinking- but it won’t work for me. I’ve tried it all or I was recently diagnosed with ADHD or I’m too old. But I promise, if you’re open to it, this work is not only transformative but suited for so many different kinds of people and brains.
